A TEACHER in Pontian is being investigated for allegedly punching, strangling and slapping four students who caught him smoking in school, yesterday.

According to reports in Kosmo, the teacher allegedly assaulted the 10 and 11-year-old students after he was caught smoking in a storeroom.

The 48-year-old teacher allegedly also used foul language on other students.

Pontian police chief Mohammad Shofee Tayib said following the incident, the parents of the children involved lodged police reports at the Ayer Baloi police station.

“Initial probes revealed that the students were crying and trembling all the way home and complained to their parents about what happened.

“The parents then lodged police reports,” he said.

Shofee said that one of the students suffered injuries to the upper body and left eyebrow.

“The teacher was reportedly angry because one of his students had caught him smoking in the school storeroom.

“So far, no arrests have been made and police are still awaiting directives from the deputy public prosecutor’s office before proceeding with the investigation,” he said.

The four students would be sent for further examinations at the Pontian Hospital. – May 11, 2024
