FIVE family members of the man who allegedly attacked the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor on May 17 were charged in the Johor Baru sessions court today.

They are Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin, 62; his wife, Rosna Jantan, 59, a Singaporean; and their children Radin Romyullah Radin Imran, 34; Farhah Sobrina Radin Imran, 23; and Mariah Radin Imran, 19.

Reports in The Star said they were brought to the Johor Baru Court Complex using separate vehicles under heavy police security.

The charges were read separately in front of sessions court judge Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim.

Radin Imran faces four charges, including under Section 130G (a) of the Penal Code, for inciting terrorism by promoting the ideology of violence associated with the Islamic State (IS) to his family members, including the alleged attacker Radin Luqman, 21.

He is alleged to have committed the offence between the end of 2014 and May 17, 2024, at a house along Jalan Rabani in Kampung Sungai Tiram.

His second charge is under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code for allegedly supporting terrorism by storing four homemade air rifles for IS activities at the same location.

He allegedly committed the offence at about 10.45am on May 17.

The third charge is that Radin Imran allegedly pledged loyalty (baiah) to IS head Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi, at the same location at the end of 2014.

This offence falls under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, while for the fourth charge, Radin Imran was alleged to possess a book titled “Hakikat Islam & Hakikat Syirik” by Abu Sulaiman Aman Abdurrahman, linked to IS.

He allegedly committed the offence at the same location on May 17 and May 19 between 10.45am and 2.30pm.

This charge (fourth) is under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code.

As for Radin Romyullah, he was charged with two offences, including swearing allegiance to Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi and possessing an external hard disk containing materials related to IS and its activities.

He allegedly committed these acts at the same location between the end of 2014 and May 17 and was charged under Section 130J(1)(a) and Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code.

Rosna and her daughters, Farhah Sobrina and Mariah, were charged with deliberately omitting to provide information regarding crimes related to the ideology of terrorism.

They allegedly committed this offence at the same location between April 2017 and May 17 and face a potential prison sentence of up to seven years and a fine.

All five said they understood the charges against them, and the court fixed July 31 for the case re-mention.

No bail was offered, and Che Wan Zaidi advised the family to appoint a lawyer or represent themselves.

Putrajaya Attorney-General’s Department Serious Crimes Unit deputy public prosecutors Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam and Fazeedah Faik prosecuted.

During the 2.45am attack on May 17, constables Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, were killed after they were assailed by a man wielding a machete. Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, 38, was shot.

The attacker was eventually gunned down.

Following the attack, police arrested the five family members of the suspect, along with two other people, all of whom were remanded for a week to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. – June 19, 2024
