SULTAN of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has consented to an audience with Football Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hamidin Amin, The Star reports.

Hamidin said he was informed yesterday of the meeting by the ruler's private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani.

"I received a phone call from Datuk Munir at about 2.30pm on Friday, the day after I sent the letter requesting permission to meet with the sultan.

"His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor has ordered him (Datuk Munir) to accept the application I sent to Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam on Thursday," he said.

It was reported yesterday that the ruler had turned down Hamidin's request for an audience.

The request from Hamidin was made in response to the recent controversies surrounding Selangor FC.

Sultan Sharafuddin, who is the patron of Selangor FC, had earlier expressed his anger over the Malaysian Football League (MFL) and Hamidin's (MFL) decisions.

The ruler was unhappy with what he perceived to be the excessive punishment of Selangor FC for pulling out of the Charity Shield match with Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on May 10.

In response to the sultan, MFL revised its sanctions. It reduced the fine on the club from RM100,000 to RM60,000, reversed a three-point deduction, and allowed spectators to attend the Selangor-JDT match in the MBPJ Stadium in November.

"I was also informed by Munir that Sultan Sharafuddin will be leaving for Sarawak and then has other official business until the Maal Hijrah celebration on July 7.

"God willing, if there are no obstacles, the date to see His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor will likely be held after July 7," Hamidin said. – July 29, 2024
