BARISAN Nasional (BN) will no longer be part of the Unity Government once the 15th Parliament is dissolved, chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today, making clear that the coalition’s commitment does not extend beyond the current parliamentary term.
“The moment (Parliament is dissolved), we are no longer together with them (the Unity Government).”
Zahid said BN had decided to join the Unity Government following the 15th General Election (GE15) and would honour that commitment until the end of the current parliamentary term.
“In a complex situation, we want to have one fixed compass. BN decided to join the government after GE15, and our commitment is to remain in the government until the end of the 15th term.
“When Parliament is dissolved, we are no longer together with them. This is our promise,” he said in his keynote address at the 18th annual general assembly of Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today.
He said the commitment was BN’s pledge to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and had been formalised through the formation of the Unity Government.
However, Zahid stressed that BN’s participation in the Unity Government did not mean the coalition had surrendered its identity or abandoned its own political positions. - September 27, 2026
