PUTRAJAYA – Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo will undertake a two-day working visit to Malaysia starting today which holds significant importance in the mutual effort to further strengthen the longstanding and close relations between the two countries.

During the visit, Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, is scheduled to have a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to review the progress of cooperation and discuss outstanding bilateral issues.

“The prime minister and the president are expected to also exchange views on regional and global issues including on the strengthening of Asean post 2025.

“In addition, both leaders will also witness the exchange of several agreements after they are signed by the representatives of the relevant ministry and agency,” said a statement from the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra).

The president will be accompanied by his spouse, Iriana Joko Widodo, his cabinet ministers and senior officials of the Indonesian government during his visit.

The statement added that Jokowi is also scheduled to have an afternoon tea session with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara.

In 2022, Indonesia was Malaysia’s 6th largest trading partner and second largest among Asean member states with total trade of RM130.14 billion (US$29.55 billion), an increment of 36.5% compared with RM95.31 billion (US$22.98 billion) in 2021. – Bernama, June 7, 2023
