A MAN from a longhouse in Simunjan district in Sarawak who was found guilty of repeatedly raping his 16-year-old daughter and making her pregnant was today jailed for a total of 65 years and ordered to be whipped 36 times.

Kuching Sessions Court Judge Iris Awen Jon sentenced the father, 51, today after finding him guilty on three charges of raping the girl in his longhouse room in March, April and May of 2020 when his wife and other children were not at home, the Borneo Post Online reported.

For the first and second charges, he was jailed for 20 years each and ordered to be whipped 12 times each, with the jail terms to run concurrently.

For the third charge, he was jailed for 25 years and ordered to be whipped 12 times, with the jail sentence to run consecutively after the term for the first two charges ended.

Biological tests confirmed that the man was the father of the daughter's baby.

During the trial, it was heard that the man forced himself on the girl when she was alone.

She was initially afraid to tell anyone due to her fear of her father who has a bad temper, the court was told.

The heinous crimes came to light when she got pregnant.

Subsequently, a police investigation revealed the crimes by the father, leading to his arrest and charges in court. - The Vibes, January 12, 2024.
