MOHD Azizi Abu Naim, the former Nenggiri assemblyman is expected to file an injunction, challenging the Kelantan State Assembly's decision to declare the seat vacant.

According to reports in The New Straits Times, his lawyer, Aswath Ramakrishnan said he and his team were finalising the documents.

Mohd Azizi is expected to file the injunction by this weekend.

"We will file the application online once all the documents are in order," he said, adding that they will notify the press once the hearing date is set.

It was earlier reported that Mohd Azizi's lawyers had postponed their plan to file the application challenging the state assembly's decision.

On June 19, the Kelantan assembly declared the Nenggiri state seat held by Mohd Azizi, a Bersatu lawmaker vacant, paving the way for a possible by-election in the state.

Azizi is also the Gua Musang MP.

Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the vacancy of the Nenggiri state seat was according to Article 31 of the state constitution.

He also said Mohd Azizi has the right to challenge the assembly's decision to declare his seat vacant.

Amar said neither the state government nor Bersatu could prevent the former Nenggiri assemblyman from taking legal action.

It was earlier also reported that Bersatu had revoked the membership of six of its lawmakers with immediate effect and that notices had been issued to the said members informing them of their expulsion.

The MPs are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Azizi, Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Zulkafperi Hanafi (Tanjong Karang) and Suhaili.  – June 25, 2024.
