FOOTBALL Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin has sent a letter asking for a meeting with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, amid rising tensions among the sport authority and the teams.

Hamidin acknowledged the reprimand from the ruler, saying he had made contact yesterday with the Selangor palace.

"I am aware of the sadness and disappointment expressed by the sultan of Selangor. I contacted the palace yesterday. Today, I followed it up with a 'warkah' (letter) asking for an audience," he said today at the launch of the FAM Women's National League in Kuala Lumpur.

Yesterday, Sultan Sharafuddin said he was saddened by the fine on Selangor FC for not participating in a Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) last month.

Selangor FC was also docked three points by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) and required to compensate JDT for losses as the host of the opening match and the MFL for losses resulting from the withdrawal from the match .

“I am very disappointed and saddened by the decisions of the MFL and the Malaysian Football Association, particularly its president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin," he said.

“I am surprised and disappointed because Hamidin did not take a serious stance, despite his previous role as the secretary-general of the Selangor Football Association from 1995 to 2013 and experience in the state football arena,” he said in a statement.

The sultan also said he was angry over the latest decision by MFL which he deemed irresponsible, merciless and inhumane. – June 27, 2024.
