SULTAN of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has declined a request for an audience from FAM president Datuk Hamidin Amin, Harian Metro reported.
Quoting a source, the Malay daily reported that Hamidin's request was turned down by the ruler.
"Yes, Hamidin's request for an audience with the Sultan of Selangor has been turned down," the source said.
The request from Hamidin was made in response to recent controversies involving Selangor FC.
Sultan Sharafuddin, the patron of Selangor FC, yesterday expressed his extreme disappointment over the Malaysian Football League's (MFL) actions and Hamidin's lack of serious concern.
Sultan Sharafuddin, a former FA of Selangor president, was unhappy with MFL's perceived excessive punishment of Selangor FC for pulling out of the Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on May 10.
In response to Sultan Sharafuddin's displeasure, MFL revised its sanctions, reducing the fine from RM100,000 to RM60,000, lifting the three-point deduction, and allowing fans to attend the Selangor-JDT match at MBPJ Stadium in November.
However, the expenses incurred by MFL and JDT for the Charity Shield remain under review. – June 28, 2024.
